SPOTLIGHT by SparkDojo is a global community dedicated to solving the most deep-rooted political, economic, and social issues that Japan has struggled with for a long time. We invite experts from various industries, disciplines, and cultures to cast light from different angles onto a seemingly unsolvable issue. How would a cultural anthropologist solve Japan’s sinking birthrate and rapidly aging population? How would a neurologist tackle gender inequality in Japan? What new ideas or perspectives can experts from fields that are not directly related to the issue offer? Our goal is to take a new look at Japan’s oldest, most intractable problems and offer creative solutions through engagement and collaboration.
For our first event, we will be discussing the issue of \"Chronic Overwork\" in Japan. In recent years, the government, companies, and society as a whole have made great efforts to deal with this issue. Yet, news of labor law violations, death by overworking, unpaid overtime, and workplace bullying continue to be reported, undermining the progress being made. Together with our panelists, we will be discussing various solutions -- both tried and untried -- to tackle Japan's \"overwork\" culture.
